The parts behind most repair calls
Rollers, hinges and track
The door rides on rollers inside the track, and hinges join the sections so the door can bend over the curve into the ceiling. A worn roller grinds, a dry hinge squeals, and a track knocked out of line makes the door catch.
Springs, cables and drums
The springs do the lifting. The cables, wound on drums, carry it to the bottom corners. Both are under high tension, so a heavy door, a crooked corner or a bang has its own pages: broken spring repair and off-track and cable repair.

Why is my garage door so loud?
Usually a moving part: dry or worn rollers, hinges that need lubricant, loose hardware, or a squeaking spring. DASMA says springs can squeak with normal use and suggests a garage door spray lubricant first. Grinding or popping that stays is worth a look.
Why does my garage door shake or catch when it moves?
A door that jerks or sticks is usually fighting its track: a bend, loose brackets, debris, or rollers that no longer turn freely. Chamberlain says to watch for sticking or jerking and to check that the tracks are clear and not bent. Don’t force it.

Should I repair my garage door or replace it?

Can I repair a garage door myself?
Some upkeep, yes: keeping the tracks and sensor lenses clean, and lubricating the hinges and roller bearings. Springs, cables and the bottom-corner brackets are under extreme tension. DASMA says they’re for a trained technician only, and Chamberlain says never to loosen, move or adjust them.
