Roll-up or sectional, hand or motor
Two kinds of door
A roll-up door coils a curtain of slats into a spiral above the opening; DASMA says it typically serves commercial and industrial buildings. A sectional door is hinged panels riding in tracks.
How it’s operated
By hand, chain hoist or crank, or by an electric operator. An operator has a duty cycle, the cycles per period it’s designed for, so a busy door needs one that fits.
What keeps people safe
A sensing edge on the bottom bar or photo eyes stop or reverse the door. Photo eyes belong no higher than 6 inches off the floor.

Do commercial garage doors need a hurricane rating?
They need a rating for the wind load their building and address produce. In Broward’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone that includes impact testing.
How often should a commercial roll-up door be serviced?
DASMA advises a technician inspect a rolling door at least yearly, or as the maker directs, and staff check an electric one quarterly.
Does a commercial door operator have to meet UL 325?
DASMA says the federal residential rule doesn’t cover commercial operators, but building code, OSHA, insurers or a job spec may still require UL 325.
How much does a commercial garage door cost?
It depends on the door type, size, wind rating and operator. We give the exact price at the door, once we’ve seen it, before any work.
Can you repair a door that a truck has hit?
