How an opener repair visit goes
Same steps, every time, in this order.

You describe what the opener is doing
Silent, straining, running without moving the door, or reversing on its own: what you tell us on the phone gives us a first idea (the gear, the sensors, or the circuit board). We confirm it at the door.

We test the drive mechanism in order
Gear, belt or chain, trolley and photo-eye sensors get checked in sequence, not just the motor, so we find the part that actually failed.

We repair or replace the failed part
Gear, belt, circuit board or sensors, whichever one failed. The parts that still work are left alone.

We program and test everything before we leave
Remotes, keypad, and any app or Wi-Fi connection get reprogrammed and run through a few full cycles before we call it done.

Chain, belt, or direct drive, plus what’s worth adding
Chain, belt, or direct drive
A chain-drive opener is the loudest and the least expensive to service. A belt-drive swaps in a rubber belt, running quieter. Direct-drive openers move the motor itself along the rail. We repair with the same drive type already on your door.
myQ and app control
Current Chamberlain and LiftMaster openers build in myQ, letting you check or close the door from a phone. Older openers can often take a retrofit myQ hub instead.
Battery backup, if you want it
Florida has no law requiring a battery backup. That mandate exists only in California. Given how often South Florida loses power in a storm, it’s worth asking about, not something we’re required to sell you.

Openers, storms, and one thing the law does not require
Every residential opener already has a manual release cord that disconnects the trolley so the door can be opened by hand during a power outage. That’s a standard feature, not a Florida rule.

Opener repair questions
Why does my garage door opener run but the door won’t move?
The motor is usually fine but the connection to the door has failed: a stripped drive gear, or a chain or belt that slipped. Most often it’s a repair, not a full replacement.
Why does my garage door reverse right before it closes?
The photo-eye sensors near the floor have likely drifted out of alignment or picked up dirt. The opener reads that as an obstruction and reverses.
Do I need a battery backup on my garage door opener in Florida?
No. Florida has no law requiring one; only California does. It’s a reasonable option given local storms, but your call, not a requirement.
Can you fix a Chamberlain, LiftMaster, or Genie opener, or do I need the original installer?
We work on all of them, and Craftsman-branded openers, regardless of who installed the original unit.
Why did my remote or keypad stop working?
Usually lost programming after a power outage or a dying battery. We reprogram and test remotes and keypads as part of any opener visit.
Is myQ or Wi-Fi control available for my current opener?
A recent Chamberlain or LiftMaster likely has myQ built in. Older openers can often take a retrofit hub instead of a full replacement.
