Aventura garage door questions
Do I need a permit to replace a garage door in Aventura?
Yes. The Building Division of the city’s Community Development Department issues the permit, and applications are filed online. The installer normally files it, with the door’s product approval attached.
Does a new garage door in Aventura have to be hurricane rated?
Yes. Miami-Dade County’s High-Velocity Hurricane Zone covers Aventura, so a replacement needs a current product approval, for example a Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance, whether or not the old door was ever rated.
My townhome is from the late 1980s. Is the original garage door a problem?
It can be. The median Aventura home dates from 1989, and doors from those years predate Florida’s 2002 building code. We can service one that still works; a replacement has to meet today’s HVHZ rules.
